Reports To: General Manager – Chunya Copper Leaching and Mining Operations
Duty Station: Chunya, Tanzania
Job Purpose
The Assistant General Manager is responsible for supporting the General Manager in providing strategic leadership and operational oversight of mining and copper leaching activities. The role ensures safe, efficient, and sustainable operations while driving productivity, cost optimization, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in line with Tanzanian mining industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Support the General Manager in directing and coordinating all mining, mineral processing, and leaching plant operations to achieve production and business objectives.
- Provide leadership to departmental heads and operational teams to ensure efficient utilization of human, financial, and physical resources.
- Drive operational excellence initiatives aimed at maximizing production, plant recovery, and equipment availability.
- Oversee implementation of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies to enhance operational reliability and minimize downtime.
- Ensure strict compliance with the Mining Act of Tanzania, OSHA requirements, environmental regulations, and company policies.
- Promote a strong health, safety, environmental, and community (HSEC) culture across all operations.
- Assist in preparing annual operating plans, budgets, forecasts, and cost-control initiatives.
- Monitor operational performance and recommend process improvements to enhance productivity and profitability.
- Lead, mentor, and develop employees to build a high-performance and succession-ready
- Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, government institutions, and local communities to maintain productive relationships.
- Support incident investigations and ensure implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Prepare management reports and provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
- Act for the General Manager during periods of absence and undertake any other duties assigned by management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Master's Degree or MBA will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of 8–10 years' experience in mining and mineral processing operations, with at least 3 years in a senior supervisory or management position.
- Experience in copper leaching and hydrometallurgical operations is highly desirable.
- Sound knowledge of Tanzanian mining legislation, occupational safety requirements, and environmental management standards.
