Introduction

We are seeking an exceptional and visionary leader to assume the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This executive position offers an opportunity to lead a respected professional regulatory organization responsible for advancing professional standards, strengthening governance, protecting the public interest, and driving strategic growth.

The successful candidate will provide strategic direction and operational leadership, ensuring the effective execution of the organization's mandate while fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, innovation, and stakeholder engagement. This role requires a dynamic individual with strong leadership capabilities, sound business acumen, and a proven track record of delivering organizational performance in a complex regulatory or professional environment.

The CEO will work closely with the Council, management, government stakeholders, industry leaders, professional bodies, and other key partners to position the organization as a leader in professional regulation and development. Duties & Responsibilities

he Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will be responsible for providing strategic leadership, ensuring effective governance, and overseeing the overall management and performance of the organization. Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to ensure the achievement of the organization's mandate, objectives, and long-term sustainability.
  • Advise and support the Council in the development and implementation of strategic plans, policies, and governance frameworks.
  • Lead the execution of organizational strategies, business plans, and performance objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, regulations, policies, and corporate governance requirements.
  • Oversee the effective management of financial resources, including budgeting, financial planning, reporting, and risk management.
  • Promote sound governance, ethical conduct, accountability, and transparency throughout the organization.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with government departments, regulatory authorities, professional bodies, industry stakeholders, academic institutions, and international partners.
  • Drive stakeholder engagement initiatives to enhance the organization's reputation, influence, and impact.
  • Lead organizational transformation, innovation, and continuous improvement to strengthen operational effectiveness and service delivery.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of policies, programmes, and initiatives that support professional standards, registration, and development.
  • Ensure effective human capital management, including talent development, succession planning, employee engagement, and performance management.
  • Monitor organizational performance and implement corrective measures to ensure the achievement of strategic and operational targets.
  • Identify, assess, and manage strategic, operational, financial, and compliance risks.
  • Foster a high-performance culture that promotes collaboration, diversity, integrity, professionalism, and excellence.
  • Represent the organization at national and international forums, meetings, conferences, and stakeholder engagements.
  • Prepare and present reports to the Council on strategic, operational, financial, and governance matters.
  • Perform any other duties delegated by the Council within the scope of the position.

 

 

 

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications

  • A relevant Master's degree in Natural Sciences, Business Administration, Public Administration, Management, Law, Finance, or a related field.
  • A postgraduate qualification in leadership, governance, or business management will be an added advantage.
  • Professional registration with a recognised professional body will be advantageous.
  • Membership of relevant professional institutes and associations will be beneficial.

Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years' senior management experience, of which at least 5 years should be at executive management level.
  • Proven experience in strategic leadership, organisational management, and implementation of corporate strategy.
  • Demonstrated experience in governance, compliance, and regulatory environments.
  • Extensive experience in financial management, budgeting, resource allocation, and organisational sustainability.
  • Proven track record in stakeholder engagement and relationship management across government, industry, academia, professional bodies, and other key stakeholders.
  • Experience in leading organisational transformation, change management, and business improvement initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of South African legislative, regulatory, and corporate governance frameworks.
  • Experience in human capital management, performance management, and leadership development.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and deliver results within agreed targets and timelines.
  • Experience in representing an organisation at senior national and international forums will be an added advantage.
