Data Protection Lead

Duration: 6 Months

Location: Remote working (with attendance at the clients London office twice monthly; preferred)

Rate: £650 per day

IR35 Status: Inside

Role Overview: 

We require 5 Data Protection Leads for our Government client to support their delivery teams whilst balancing robust data protection and compliance. As the Data Protection Lead you will provide expert privacy and data protection leadership and work closely with their product, technical, legal, security and policy teams to ensure that privacy is embedded into the design and operation of services from the outset.

You will act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, enabling innovative delivery whilst ensuring compliance with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and related legislation.

As the Data Protection Lead you will possess expert knowledge in the following:

Have expert knowledge of data protection law, with demonstrable experience of applying privacybydesign and proportionate compliance in complex digital services.

Possess Data Protection & Privacy qualifications - holding a relevant privacy qualification such as IAPP (CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT) or BCS (ISEB) or possess relevant experience.

Experienced at delivering at pace, meeting challenging and changing operational and legal deadlines.

Able to build effective working relationships in a flexible and fast-changing environment

Possess a good understanding of new and emerging technologies together with the opportunities they provide to improve the delivery of public services within the UK including AI

Risk management experience, skilled in balancing risks against operational, technical and commercial requirements.

You will also possess experience of working on transformation of digital type projects on a large scale (ideally within the Government sector)

Possess privacy/data privacy technology experience and have worked alongside developers/software engineers

Skilled in embedding privacy by design in those areas.

Strong stakeholder management skills

You will also possess a good working knowledge of GDPR 

Proficient in Microsoft 365

 

Responsibilities include: 

As the Lead Data Engineer you will:

  • Lead the delivery of privacy-by-design across the client's products, services and programmes.
  • Provide expert advice on UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, PECR and wider privacy obligations.
  • Lead and assure complex Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new products, technologies and business change initiatives.
  • Advise on complex areas of data protection, including identity assurance, biometric processing, artificial intelligence, analytics, data sharing and transparency.
  • Support the development of privacy notices, data sharing agreements, governance artefacts and risk assessments.
  • Identify, assess and manage data protection risks, ensuring that appropriate mitigations and governance arrangements are in place.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across delivery, policy, legal, security and operational teams.
  • Also prepare high-quality briefings, recommendations and governance papers for senior leaders and programme boards.
