GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

This position manages the lunchroom operations of elementary, junior high, middle or small senior high school preparing most foods on premises.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Oversee and participate in food production.
Responsible for making sure serving is on time and prepared according to
     recipes.
Make certain adequate amounts of food are served.
Enforce State, Local, Federal and Board of Education sanitation standards and regulations.
Ensure equipment and work areas are clean.
Oversee the proper handling and storage of food.
Ensure dishes and other utensils are free of bacteria.
Maintain updated work manuals and records.
Prepare a variety of required reports.
Supervise, train, direct, and motivate employees.
Delegate work to proper employees.
Evaluate and appraise employee’s performance.
Establish work standards and schedules of employees.
Resolve minor grievances and other personnel problems.
Maintain tight control of inventory and storage supplies.
Verify lunchroom orders are complete and accurate.
Contact Lunchroom Managers for corrections before approval to submit to vendors.
Complete monitoring forms to insure proper service and documentation for the After
    School Snack Program and Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program.
Acts as Itinerant Manager as needed.
Provide assistance to Supervisors in training and special projects.
Responsible for managing the lunchroom, ordering system and programs as assigned.
Performs related duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES  WHICH MAY BE SAMPLED/MEASURED/INCLUDED IN THIS EXAM:

Knowledge of:

  • elements of report preparation and writing.
  • basics of supervision.
  • basic mathematics, including use of fractions, decimals and percentages.
  • problem solving techniques.
  • inventory control.
  • basic English and English usage.
  • volume food production, including ordering supplies and commodities, storing, food and cooking terminology, preparation, equipment, and serving.
  • general sanitation standards as they relate to food operation.
  • english and math sufficient to write reports.


Skill to:

  • operate a computer.


Ability to:

  • communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • prepare clear, concise and accurate reports.
  • oversee and participate in food production.
  • supervise (train, direct, motivate, delegate work, evaluate and appraise worker performance, resolve minor grievances and other personnel problems.
  • plan and organize work, estimate requirements accurately and set reasonable priorities.
  • deal effectively with all types of people.
  • read, interpret, convert and follow recipes.
  • perform basic arithmetic calculations, including use of fractions, decimals and percentages.

QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of experience in volume food preparation and service with the Cincinnati Public Schools or any other school system (must have included cooking and/or in-charge responsibilities) OR one year of responsible paid work experience as a cook and/or manager in volume food preparation and service OR successful completion of an accredited program in food management or equivalent.  

MILITARY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE EVALUATION:
Military education and experience may be substituted for college level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case by case  basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
This is a sensitive classification therefore applicants for appointments must pass a security clearance, which includes a check of employment references and criminal records.  Must have a valid Driver's License. 

PROBATIONARY PERIOD:
120 working days.

SUBJECTS AND WEIGHTS OF TEST SECTIONS:

The selection process is worth 100% of the exam grade and consists of a written exam. The passing score will be determined after the examination by the Civil Service Examiner together with the Secretary. Determination of the passing score will be based on the job analysis, analysis of examination results, consultation with subject matter experts or other professional methods. Veteran’s points will be added to passing scores.

GENERAL INFORMATION

 
1.    FILING APPLICATIONS:  Must be submitted through http://www.cps-k12.org click
       on Apply for a job with CPS and Online Application System,  Internal Postings.
       Application must be received no later than stated deadline.


2.    QUALIFICATIONS:  Unless otherwise stated, work experience requirements must be

       met by paid experience, and all qualifications must be met by the application deadline

       date.


3.    CITIZENSHIP:  Application accepted from both citizens and non-citizens;  however,

       due to the Immigration Reform and  Control Act, only citizens and aliens lawfully

       authorized to work in the U.S. will be hired.


4.    TRANSCRIPTS: ( IF NEEDED, NO LATER THAN THE DEADLINE DATE FOR FILING

       APPLICATIONS).  PLEASE NOTE:  Copies of unofficial versions or internet printouts of

       transcripts are NOT acceptable.


5.    AGE REQUIREMENT:  Must be at least 18 years old by the application deadline date.


6.    SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR QUALIFIED DISABLED:  Such persons may arrange

       with Margaret Key, Test Analyst at 513-363-0206, no later than the application deadline,

       for an alternate test date, time or location, or necessary assistance in taking the exam,

       providing the security or integrity of the exam is not jeopardized nor an undue hardship

       (e.g., substantial additional cost or time) imposed.


7.    VETERAN’S CREDIT:  20% additional credit is given for military service or service as a

       Red Cross nurse.  To qualify, the following requirements must be met EACH TIME an

       application is filed for an exam;  have an honorable discharge or transfer to the reserves

       with evidence of satisfactory service, OR have been a Red Cross nurse;  have served on

       active duty; and have shoan official document verifying such service (e.g., DD-214), no

       later than the exam date; and have passed the civil service exam.


8.    PASSING SCORE:  Will be determined after the exam by the test analyst, subject to

       review and approval of the City Civil Service Division.  Determination of the passing

       score will be based on the job analysis, analysis of exam results, consultation with

       subject matter experts, and/or other professional methods.


9.    SECURITY CLEARANCE:  Applicants for appointment must successfully pass a security

       investigation which includes a check of employment references and criminal records.
